Esercizi di memoria, is a series of compositions made with wild oat stems, a plant symbolically associated with rebirth, fertility, abundance, and nourishment. These meanings are embedded in the material itself.
The stems, cut and arranged like graphic signs, respond to light by transforming the drawing’s two-dimensionality: the surface vibrates and the form becomes unstable and mutable.
Wild oats change significantly depending on the time of harvest: in June they are still flexible and luminous, while in August they become drier and more resonant. The care required to preserve the material becomes part of the process. Over the years, I have observed the plant’s cycles and harvested it at different moments; time thus becomes a material in its own right—a natural metronome that records seasonal passages, chromatic shifts, and memory embedded in the gesture
Esercizi di memoria e' una serie di composizioni realizzate con gambi di avena selvatica, una pianta simbolicamente associata alla rinascita, alla fertilità, all’abbondanza e al nutrimento. Questi significati sono inscritti nel materiale stesso.
I gambi, tagliati e disposti come segni grafici, rispondono alla luce trasformando la bidimensionalità del disegno: la superficie vibra e la forma diventa instabile e mutevole.
L’avena selvatica cambia in modo significativo a seconda del momento della raccolta: a giugno è ancora flessibile e luminosa, mentre ad agosto diventa più secca e risonante. La cura necessaria per preservare il materiale entra a far parte del processo. Nel corso degli anni ho osservato i cicli della pianta e l’ho raccolta in momenti diversi; il tempo diventa così un materiale a sé stante — un metronomo naturale che registra i passaggi stagionali, le variazioni cromatiche e la memoria inscritta nel gesto.
